About the Mercedes-Benz T1 Platform
The MERCEDES-BENZ T1 Platform/Chassis (601) was produced from 1977 to 1989. This model was designed as a versatile platform, often used for utility purposes. It was popular for transporting goods and materials, thanks to its robust build and practical design. With a rear-wheel drive system, it provided reliable traction, making it suitable for various road conditions and work environments.
Under the hood, the MERCEDES-BENZ T1 featured a diesel engine, specifically the OM 616.937. This engine had a displacement of 2.4 liters, with four cylinders and two valves per cylinder. It produced 72 PS (53 kW) of power, making it efficient for its intended uses. The engine used a prechamber design, which was common for diesel engines of that era. Notably, it did not include a catalytic converter. The braking system combined hydraulic and mechanical components, with disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. Although it lacked ABS, it did feature ASR for improved stability.
